Guardian Chapter 11

A Dark Gathering
By Steph

Jet engines whirred overhead echoing down through and down into the magma vent of the now dead volcano, to the passer-by it looked like a mountain of grey rocks a ruminant of the once mighty Mt St Helens, deep below ground was a different story.

6.4 miles below Mt St Helens

Barricade’s optics scanned the mass of pink cubes stacked in one corner of the dark metal base, over the past month the energon supply had trebled and was now overflowing the holding bay, masses upon masses of pink cubes stacked against each other in a semi synchronous pattern. Barricade turned to Soundwave, his red optics noting the communication specialist’s red visor that was flashing blue light, indicating the mech was scanning something.

“What is it Soundwave?”

Soundwave’s massive head turned slightly, his voice emotionless analyzing data as he spoke.

“Scans indicate Jet planes circling overhead”

Barricade’s red optics narrowed his scanners not detecting anything through the miles of rock and dust surrounding the makeshift base.

“Seems as though those insolent bugs haven’t learnt their lesson” he half growled whilst circling the room in an incisive pace. Soundwave’s visor flashed red and his huge metal head turned upwards expectantly.

“Jets not of human origin”

Barricade stopped and turned giving Soundwave a disgruntled look, his optics flashing in slight surprise, Starscream was not due to return to earth for the next two solar cycles.

“What, you mean Screamer’s come back, slag it, I was beginning to hope he had rusted trying to make it back to this mud ball of a planet.”

“Negative, designations: Thundercrack and Skywarp, faction: Seekers.”

Barricade’s vents hissed put in frustration he turned his black metal head upwards optics narrowing expectantly.

“That’s even worse, Primus, its enough trying to deal with just one seeker, but two, I’d rather go offline”

Just then Barricade’s com link beeped, the police cruiser let out a groan which sounded like a gear screeching on metal, he stubbornly refused the uplink request until finally after 27 data streams.

“Barricade here”

Static issued for a second before an arrogant voice filled Barricade’s audio receptors.

“Hey ground hogs, how’s the dark?”

Barricade cringed, trust Thundercracker to point out the obvious, seekers and their arrogance of their flying abilities was and is still well known, even to this day on age.

“Can it TC, what do you want?”  Barricade did not hesitate to hide his annoyance, he growled deeply in his chest even over the com link, Thundercracker noticed.

“Lighten up tinhead, we have a message from Starscream”

“Slag it, what does Screamer want this time? Why can’t he risk his own aft for once.

Thundercracker, laughed, a deep rumbling from deep within his chest, static from the com channel gave it an eerie mechanical twinge.

“You’l see, rather you then me, transferring data patch now…”

Strings of codes and numbers flashed across Barricade’s mainframe processor as the file transferred, all at once Starscream’s arrogant voice filled his audio receptors.

“My fellow decepticons, it is I, your supreme leader. For stellar cycles the wretched autobots have foiled our plans, driven us from our rightful homeworld and now they must all pay. This is of the utmost importance, Energon must be collected it will be needed later. The time has come for the Dark God’s return.”

Barricade’s optics narrowed,

“That was about as clear as mud, what on Cybertron has his processor glitching? The Dark god… sounds like a load of slag to me.”

A sigh came over the channel, before the jet’s voice answered.

“I will land along with Skywarp, ready your processor  Skywarp’s overloaded when he finally realized. See you in a cycle.”

The line went dead. Soundwave’s red visor flashed upwards and the sounds of jet engines echoed down from above, the thin band of light from the surface dimmed for a second as two huge jets flew descended downwards. Both sped towards the ground before transforming in mid air, huge arms and limbs sprouting out from the shifting metal supporting the entire mass of their huge bodies.

Both brutes sported a pair of huge sturdy wings spanning the length of their shoulders that moved from side to side in a sort of arrogant strut as the two huge mech’s walked. One was a dowdy blue colour, white and silver metal tracing the length of his huge wings with the decepticon insignia proudly displayed on each tip, his huge head supported by bundles of thick black cable protected by a sheeting of hard looking metal, his optics the familiar crimson red colour. Huge cannons hoisted on his shoulders folding away until needed just below two huge looking thrusters. His companion all though smaller looking was just as formidable, a purple stripes down ether wing along with the decepticon insignia on the tip, two huge cannons protruding just above his shoulders along with a pair of plasma blasters fitted just below two huge standard seeker thrusters.
Barricade nodded his head in the direction of the two seekers, beside him Soundwave paced forward forming a circle in the dimly lit room.

“All right, what is all this about then?” Barricade’s voice broke the seemingly long silence.

Thundercracker paced from side to side, before stopping and turning to look at Barricade.

“Do you remember those stories we used to be told as sparklings?”

Barricade dipped his metal head to one side in slight confusion. Memories flashed through the Selene’s processor of a time on Cybertron, caregivers retelling the ancient stories of how Cybertron itself had came to be.

“You mean the ones about Primus and Unicron?”

Thundercracker nodded, Soundwave’s visor flashed a red colour and for the first time he made his presence known.

“Illogical, the stories are myths not fact” the mech sounded in the same emotionless tone.

Skywarp paced forward joining his trine mate in the centre of the base, he regarded Soundwave for a second before nodding his metal head, he lifted one of his metal hands as a fan of blue light fanned out from the centre. The light bleared white before producing a 3 dimensional image of the Earth in all of it‘s detail.

“That’s what we all thought, until Starscream found this.” A red blip flashed on the projection indicating an energy signature, Barricade’s optics widened, Soundwave’s visor flashed and for perhaps the first time in his existence he edged closer with un initial fascination. Barricade’s optics zoomed as he reread the energy data.

“That’s impossible, how in the name of the Allspark!” Soundwave and Barricade both verbally stiffened, the air filled with an eerie silence.

Thundercracker pointed with one metal finger,

“We don’t know, all we know is that he is here, right in the core of this planet.”

Barricade leaned back, his optics flashing towards Skywarp.

“It’s impossible, Unicron vanished to the depths of deep space after Primus defeated him, how in the matrix did he get here?”

Thundercracker waved one hand dismissively he pointed towards the energy signature.

“After he was defeated by Primus, Unicron was said to have wandered the universe looking for a safe place to rejuvenate and repair.”

“So.. that’s what Starscream is planning.” Barricade’s voiced sounded unsure, though in the pit of his spark, he wasn’t sure if he really wanted to know…

“He’s planning to resurrect Unicron….”
